Make a child smile this holiday season.
The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf®, in partnership with Smile Train, seeks to help change the lives of Filipino children by giving them smiles for a brighter future.
Smile Train is an international children’s charity with a sustainable approach to a single, solvable problem: cleft lip and palate. Millions of children in developing countries with untreated clefts live in isolation, but more importantly, have difficulty eating, breathing and speaking. Cleft repair surgery is simple, and the transformation is immediate. Smile Train’s sustainable model provides training, funding and resources to empower local doctors in 85+ developing countries to provide 100%-free cleft repair surgery and comprehensive cleft care in their own communities.
Since 2001, Smile Train has been able to provide over 50,000 life-changing cleft surgeries. The organization has partnered with more than 100 trained cleft surgeons actively working at around 200 hospitals to provide free surgeries throughout the Philippines.
Cost of Surgery and Investment in Economy
For every $250 or P12,000 surgery performed on a child, the economic output is 200x the input with an estimate of $50,000 or P2,500,000 put back in the local economy. A repaired cleft will enable the child to perform better in school, hold a job and have a family of their own thus becoming a productive member of the community (Source: Economic Valuation of the Global Burden of Cleft Disease Averted by a Large Cleft Charity Dan Poenaru, Dan Lin, Scott Corlew World Journal of Surgery May 2016, Volume 40, Issue 5, pp 1053-1059).
Smile Train’s target is to change the lives of as many children around the country. There will be no minimum donation for this initiative, you may pledge for one cleft surgery for a child or pledge your support of any amount. You may donate anytime starting September 25 to November 25.
Email email@example.com to find out how you can help and make a pledge! Transform a child’s life forever and give them smiles that they can share with the world.
*There will be a culminating activity on November 25 where you will get the chance to meet the children who will benefit from your generosity.
